The Children's Academy

The Children's Academy which was started in 1991, is an independent part of the Epidemic of Art. It is an experimental activity, built on ideas created by the Swedish artist Jens Mattiasson.
The purpose of the project is to develop artistic activities among five and six year old in order to give the next generation increased creativity and cultural interests.
The Children's Academy is run by six artists who work 3 days a week with groups consisting of 15 children, morning and afternoons. The children visit the art galleries and some studios. Afterwards they make a tour around the park to familiarize themselves with the sculptures.
All the children paint together on one big sheet of paper on the floor. They are told to paint as slowly as they breathe to experience the beauty of the colors and feel how nice it is to paint.
The Children's Academy can also offer visits for groups to work with clay, music and textile.
