The Children's Academy

The Children's Academy was started in 1991. It is an experimental activity, based on ideas created by the artist Jens Mattiasson, one of the Konstepidemin founders.

The purpose is to develop artistic activities among children, from the age of five, in order to give the next generation increased creativity and cultural interests.

The Children's Academy is run by Konstepidemin artists who work with groups of 15 children for half a day. Around 1200 children attend the program in a year. The children visit the art galleries and some of the artis's studios. In the Academy they all paint together on one big sheet of paper spread out on the floor.

They are told to paint as slowly as they breathe to experience the beauty of the colors and feel how nice it is to paint. And afterwards they round up with lemonade and buns.

The Children's Academy can also offer work in other materials, such as clay, textile and music.
